PM can be brought under Lokpal ambit: Digvijaya
The issue has been one of the chief points of contention between the Govt and the civil society members.

New Delhi: Days after speaking out against the Congress' red carpet welcome accorded to yoga guru Baba Ramdev, the party's General Secretary Digvijaya Singh has once again courted controversy by choosing to take a view removed from the party's central leadership.

Addressing reporters at Raghogarh on Sunday, Digvijaya Singh said that the Prime Minister can be brought under the Lokpal Bill ambit. He said, "I, as a Chief Minister, was under the ambit of Lokayukta and had no problem in

functioning. We can have the Prime Minister, judiciary, corporate and NGOs under the Lokpal with adequate provisions so that the Lokpal can't misuse his powers."

Digvijaya's Lokpal views come at a time when the party has been categorically maintaining that the Prime Minister won't be brought under the Lokpal ambit.

This has also been one of the chief points of contention between the Government and the civil society members of the Lokpal Bill drafting committee, led by Anna Hazare which has been consistently demanding the inclusion of the Prime Minister.

Interestingly, this is not the first time that Digvijaya has aired divergent views. Recently, the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister slammed the red-carpet welcome accorded to Baba Ramdev by the Congress. He maintained that Ramdev was a 'thug' and needed to be dealt with strongly.

On the Maoist menace, Digvijaya has consistently maintained that social development is the answer, as opposed to the aggressive line adopted by Home Minister P Chidambaram. The Congress eventually toed Digvijaya's line. Insiders say that Digivijaya does enjoy the high command's sanction.
