New Delhi: Ahead of the secretary level talks between India and Pakistan scheduled for August, Pakistan envoy to India, Abdul Basit, has invited separatist leaders from Jammu and Kashmir for talks to New Delhi on August 18-19.
Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said Pakistan wants feedback from the separatists about the ground situation in Kashmir before holding talks with the Indian government. Separatist leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Shabir Ahmad Shah have been invited for the meet which has invited flak from Indian political leaders. However, notably, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chief Yasin Malik has not been called.
The Congress party has opposed the move saying this just goes to show the government has no diplomatic. Party spokesperson Rashid Alvi said, "Government should intervene. BJP always criticised such things in Congress regime
without government's permission. The High Commissioner has no right to do this."
Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party said that these events would lead to troubles in diplomatic ties between the neighbours. "If this is true then I think its a bad decision being made. In the future this will not do any good to the country and will only create more trouble," said BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi.
