'Politics Not for Me': Mimi Chakraborty Resigns As Trinamool Congress MP, Will Not Contest LS Polls
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mimi Chakraborty on Thursday resigned from the post of MP

Trinamool Congress leader and actress Mimi Chakraborty on Thursday resigned as the Lok Sabha parliamentarian. The first-time MP from Jadavpur also alleged “mental torture” within the party as a reason for quitting as the Member of Parliament. However, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has not yet accepted the resignation.

After meeting the Chief Minister in the Assembly, the Jadavpur MP said, “I resigned as MP two days ago. I sent it to Didi. But she hasn’t accepted it yet. Let’s see what steps she takes. I don’t want to contest the Lok Sabha elections.”

“Politics is not for me. You have to promote someone here (in politics) if you are helping someone…Besides being a politician, I also work as an actor. I have equal responsibilities. If you join politics, you are criticised whether you work or not. I spoke with Mamata Banerjee regarding the issues I had. I had also told her in 2022 about my resignation from the post of an MP. She had rejected it at that time,” Chakraborty added.

On being asked why she tendered her resignation to Banerjee and not to the Lok Sabha Speaker as per norms, Chakraborty said, “Once I get the nod from the TMC, I will submit it to the Speaker.”

Notably, Mimi recently resigned from the membership of two standing committees of Parliament — the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industry and the Joint Committee on Energy and Renewable Power.
