New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Police on Saturday denied having received any Intelligence Bureau input on what Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has said on ISI, said sources.
While addressing a rally in Indore on Thursday, Rahul had claimed that intelligence inputs have revealed that some ISI agents were in touch with riot victims. He had also blamed Bharatiya Janata Party for Muzaffarnagar riots.
Criticising Rahul for his ISI remark, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind leader Maulana Madani said, "Rahul Gandhi's statement was very irresponsible and we condemn it. Such issues must not be politicised. Even if he had any such information, it's a reckless statement."
Earlier on Friday, Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi had demanded that Rahul should apologise for claiming that Muslim youths affected by the Muzaffarnagar riots were in touch with Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI.
Questioning Rahul's Indore speech on ISI trying to recruit riot-affected victims in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar, the BJP leader had asked what the Congress Vice President had done to address the issue. "What has the shahzada done to stop the ISI from reaching out to Muslims in Muzaffarnagar," asked Modi while addressing a rally in Jhansi on Friday. His second question to Rahul was more direct.
The Gujarat strongman had questioned the credibility of Rahul's statement on ISI. "Does shahzada have any proof of ISI reaching out to riot victims?" he said. Modi had also raised concerns over sharing of intelligence inputs with Rahul, who is just an MP and has not been administered the oath of office and secrecy. Demanding an answer to this, he had asked: "How can intelligence officers share state secrets with the shahzada?"
The BJP had also written a letter to Election Commission complaining about Rahul for spreading communal hatred across India. The party is angry with Rahul over his speeches targeting the party. It had said he is invoking religion in his election speeches and according to BJP leaders it is a violation of election model code of conduct.
BJP leader Yashwant Sinha had questioned Intelligence Bureau briefing to Rahul. He had said, "If IB is briefing Rahul Gandhi, then it is a serious issue and need to be investigated." BJP spokesperson Prakash Javedkar had said, "How can Rahul Gandhi be briefed by IB. He is neither the Prime Minister nor the Home Minister."
Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal had said Rahul should give a proof of his claims. "Rahul should give us proof of his claim that the ISI are recruiting youth from Muzaffarnagar. We will investigate it if there is proof. But if this is a political statement, then targeting Muslims is not the right step. The Uttar Pradesh government condemns this statement. We will not give innocent Muslims the tag of terrorists," he said.
