New Delhi: In perhaps an audacious political move, anti-corruption activist Arvind Kejriwal on Friday accused Congress President Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra of illegal ties with the DLF group and thereby amassing huge properties. In a press conference along with his associates Shanti Bhushan and Prashant Bhushan, Kejriwal alleged that Vadra had used his clout in the Congress to help the DLF group in their business in various Congress-ruled states including Delhi.
This is not the first time the famous son-in-law has found himself caught in the crossfire of political rivalry between Congress and other parties. In February this year, Priyanka Gandhi's husband's debut campaign in the run-up to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections had run into controversy. His motorcycle cavalcade was stopped by the Election Commission for flouting the rules and later, the electoral officer who had stopped Vadra's cavalcade, Pawan Kumar Sen, was transferred to Goa. However, the EC maintained that this had nothing to do with the Gandhis and Vadra.
During the same UP campaign, Vadra, the brother-in-law of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, had said that he was willing to join active politics. "I am here for my brother-in-law. For me politics will come if I think I can make a difference for the people, only when I can feel I can focus and I can give my best and full attention for the development of the people. I am totally enjoying what I am doing right now. The family I married into is in politics. It's something I cannot run away from. When the time is right, if it is what is required at that time may be yes but my focus is on my work right now," said Vadra while campaigning in Rae Bareli.
