RPI warns of protest over Bhimrao Ambedkar memorial
Athawale said that his party workers would capture the Indu Mill lands for the construction of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar memorial.

Mumbai: Maharashtra has been rocked by demands for memorials to political leaders in the last few days. Republican Party of India (RPI) President Ramdas Athawale on Wednesday warned of an agitation if the Indu Mills land in central Mumbai was not allotted for the construction of a memorial for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. Athawale said that his party workers would capture the Indu Mill lands for the construction of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar memorial.

Athawale gave an ultimatum to the Maharashtra government to take a decision on the memorial before December 6, which is also the death anniversary of Dr Ambedkar. The RPI has been demanding Ambedkar Memorial at Indu Mills for a long time.

RPI leader Arun Dangle said that his party would protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on November 29 and raise the Ambedkar memorial issue.

RPI leaders say that the state government has been informed after the party's intentions and warned that if the decision was not taken quickly, party workers would forcefully capture Indu Mill lands. The party also added that the Maharashtra government would be responsible if the situation turned ugly.
