Ghaziabad: Accusing Samajwadi Party of being "anti-development", BJP's Uttar Pradesh chief Keshav Prasad Maurya on Sunday alleged that it has looted the people of the state in the name of development.

Addressing a rally here in support of Ajit Tyagi, the BJP candidate from Muradnagar Assembly constituency, Maurya alleged, "Under the Samajwadi party government, 'gundaraj' is at its height in the state. The party has looted people in the name of development."

On the SP-Congress alliance, he said when Samajwadi party president Akhilesh Yadav is taking decisions "against his father's will", how can he work for citizens.

"Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav can't stop us from winning," Maurya claimed.

The Election Commission had earlier this month declared the Akhilesh faction as the Samajwadi Party, and granted it the use of the 'bicycle' symbol for the polls.

After taking over the reins of the party, Akhilesh has handed his father, who launched Samajwadi Party 25 years ago, an advisory role as mentor and has been taking all crucial decisions on the UP elections including sealing an alliance with Congress.

Mulayam had voiced his displeasure over the alliance.

Maurya slammed BSP supremo Mayawati terming her a "synonym for corruption" and praised the Central government, saying, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated many policies for the people. After BJP wins in UP, development works will pick up pace."

The seven-phase Uttar Pradesh election begins on February 11 and will end on March 8. Votes will be counted on March 11.
