Chandigarh: Navjot Singh Sidhu has stirred up another controversy within a week of swearing in as Punjab minister by taking his wife along on official meetings.
"She is my better half, my ardhangini," Sidhu shot back at reporters on Wednesday when asked why wife Navjot Kaur, who is neither a minister nor an MLA, was seen at official meetings.
Kaur was a BJP MLA during the previous SAD-BJP government but had vacated her Amritsar East seat from which Sidhu contested and won on a Congress ticket.
This controversy comes just after the one over his participation in TV shows while he is a minister, with Sidhu insisting there is absolutely no conflict of interest.
"Should I run a bus service like Sukhbir? Or indulge in corruption? If I work four days a month, 7 pm to 6 am, why do people get a stomachache," the cricketer-turned-politician said.
"The boss is always right," Sidhu had said in reaction to reports that Amarinder Singh had sought legal opinion on whether he can continue his TV shows."But as long as I am in the office by 9 am, it should be nobody’s business what I do after 6 pm.
