Stop Finding Fictitious Flaws in Government: BJP to Congress

New Delhi: BJP on Wednesday hit back at Congress asking it to play the role of a "constructive Opposition" instead of finding "fictitious flaws" in government as it tried to justify the contrast between position of its government and that of Congress-led UPA on Balochistan.

"The statements of then PM Manmohan Singh at Sharm el-Sheikh brought immense 'sharm'(shame) tothe nation. There was a Prime Minister who was opento 'debating' India's role in Balochistan and here is a Prime Minister who has categorically sought to name and shame Pakistan for the atrocities it is committing day and night in Balochistan," BJP said in a statement.

The party had been critical of Congress-led UPA government for raising the issue of Balochistan at the 2009 Summit of Non-Alignment Movement at Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt.

In his Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has referred to Balochistan and Pak-Occupied Kashmir.

"The overwhelming support from the oppressed and subjugated brave men and women of Balochistan for Prime Minister Modi illustrates the chord his address has struck on the issue and displayed the firmness with which India has dealt with the issue," it said.

Congress had earlier in the day attacked the Modi government for its "inconsistent" foreign policy which changes faster than the weather and asked the government to end its "knee-jerk" policy with Pakistan and fix problems within the country first before raising issues like Balochistan.

Congress Spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said one felt pride when Modi made "jingoistic" statements about Balochistan, but lamented that it would have no resonance or meaning when things in the country's own backyard in Kashmir are not set right.

He said the Prime Minister spoke about Balochistan in his Independence day speech but nothing about prevailing situation in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
