Suspended Janata Dal United (JDU) MLC Manorama Devi surrendered in Gaya Court early on Tuesday morning for allegedly violating liquor prohibition law. She has been sent to 14-day judicial custody.
Soon after surrendering in court, Manorama claimed she was not guilty. "No liquor was found in my house. I have been framed politically," she said.
The JDU MLC, whose son Rakesh Ranjan Yadav alias Rocky Yadav is the main accused in the killing a youngster in the Gaya road rage case, had been evading arrest in a case of recovery of liquor bottles from her house in Anugrah Puri Colony on May 11 during a police raid.
She has also been charged with employing a child as domestic help, as well as harbouring her son Rocky Yadav, who allegedly shot dead Aditya Sachdeva, for days before he was arrested from his father Bindeshwari Prasad Yadav alias Bindi Yadav's mixer plant in Gaya district on May 10.
She surrendered a day after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said that nobody could escape from the clutches of law in the Gaya case as well as in the killing of a journalist Rajdeo Ranjan in Siwan.
Manorama was suspended from JD(U) after six bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) were found from her house.
Her trouble started after suspension from the party. Police included her name in the FIR in connection with recovery of liquor bottles with her husband Bindi Yadav, an RJD man and known history-sheeter of the area, and Rocky.
The police acquired arrest warrant against the MLC but she went into hiding. The police had got proclamation notice against her. The police had on Monday prayed for order to attach her property.
Manorama gave herself to the law only after exhausting the option to acquire an anticipatory bail. Her anticipatory bail application was rejected by District and Sessions judge Sajal Mandilwar.
