Hyderabad: Congress MPs and MLAs from Telangana will have a crucial meeting with Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday to press their demand for statehood to the region.
The legislators would meet Chidambaram at around 3 pm and Mukherjee at 8 in the evening in Delhi, Congress MP G Vivek told in Hyderabad on Tuesday night.
"We will not accept something like a Gorkhaland package. Our demand is separate Telangana," he said.
The Congress public representatives from Telangana had a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last week during which they apprised him about the strong sentiment reportedly prevailing in the region for separate statehood.
The leaders had a meeting earlier this month and Rajya Sabha member K Keshav Rao said then that they would be "constrained to opt for direct action" if there is no positive response from the Centre to their demand.
