Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Tuesday said the state does not accept the Ram Pradhan Committee's report regarding the 26/11 Mumbai attack in toto.
"We do not accept the Ram Pradhan Committee report in totality. We agree on some points and disagree on some but we have made reference of all these in the action taken report (ATR) tabled in both the houses of the legislature on Tuesday," Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said at a news conference in Mumbai.
About the allegations by BJP leader Eknath Khadse that the report has blamed three ministers for negligence, he said "There is no reference to then chief minister, deputy chief minister or the union home minister. Whether they were charged or not is a different thing. They resigned on moral grounds accepting the responsibility of the incident."
He disagreed with the view of then director general of police A N Roy that the police did not have sufficient arms and ammunition.
Chavan did not promise any specific date for making public the Ram Pradhan Committee report. "It will depend on completion of the 26/11 accused Ajmal Kasab's trial. As there are many sensitive things involved, the information cannot be disclosed."
There are no directives from the Centre on this issue, he claimed.
About action against those found responsible for negligence or lapses, Chavan said, "We will go by facts and figures. Whatever action will be taken, it will be on merit. No one will be bailed out or made scapegoat."
"D Sivanandan has been made Mumbai Police Commissioner on merit and seniority," he pointed out.
"The said irregularities mentioned in the Comptroller and Auditor General's report are only procedural lapses, which can be cleared before the Public Accounts Committee. Other things will be looked at," he added.
