New Delhi: Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has come out with the criminal records analysis of the candidates for the first phase of polling in West Bengal to be held on April 4. It has analysed 133 candidates in 18 constituencies based on the affidavits filed by them before the returning officer.
According to ADR findings, 16% of the candidates (21 candidates) have criminal cases against them, of which 17 candidates (13%) face serious criminal cases like rape, murder, extortion, communal violence etc.
Among the 133 candidates, just three (2%) have declared assets worth over one crore. It is one of the lowest when compared to the national average. At the same time, 53 candidates are graduates or above. Shockingly, 30% of the candidates or 40 candidates have not declared their Income Tax PAN.
In the first phase, just 8%, or just 11 candidates, are women. Only 38 candidates or 29% have filed the Income Tax Report.
