Jaya Ahsan Says Bollywood A Big Platform For Her: 'I Want To Play Complex Characters' | Exclusive
The year 2023 marked a splendid year for the renowned Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan.

The year 2023 marked a splendid year for the renowned Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan. In addition to making her debut in Hindi film with Kadak Singh, she gained a series of accolades for her exceptional performance in Ardhangini and celebrated a decade in the Bengali film industry. She added another feather to the cap as she won her fifth National Award (in Bangladesh). Four of her films were also screened at the IFFI (International Film Festival of India).

Looking back at an eventful year, the actor said it has been an exceptionally gratifying journey for me, “I have had the privilege of being a part of exceptional films and portraying compelling characters that have propelled my career to new heights. I feel a deep sense of fulfillment as an artist, knowing that I have crossed boundaries and successfully worked in India and Iran where my talent was appreciated. 2023 is special for me, for many reasons. Nothing can be better for an artist than expanding her horizons. International cinema not only offers challenges, it offers a wide range of opportunities as well. I got my fifth national award from our honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Additionally, being part of IFFI was a delightful and gratifying experience for me.”

Talking about her successful Hindi debut, Ahsan said, “I didn’t even take time to say yes to Kadak Singh because the project was helmed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and my co-star was Pankaj Tripathi.. Working with them, and that too in my first Hindi film was a learning experience. The film introduced me to a new family and space, bringing immense joy. My films from West Bengal Dawshom Awbotaar and Ardhangini were both blockbuster and critically acclaimed simultaneously.” said Jaya, who’s known for her work in films like Aborto and Bishorjan among others.

Her remarkable journey in 2023, marked by accolades, successful films, and a significant Bollywood debut, sets the stage for an exciting chapter in her career as she looks forward to bigger challenges and better roles in the New Year. She says, “Bollywood is a significant platform for me, and being a workaholic, I aspire to take on challenging and complex characters. My aspiration for 2024 is to find enriching roles and embrace challenging characters.”
