The South Indian film industry has always been famous for its extraordinary and grand sets. Many times, there are sets that are created, while there are many filmmakers who prefer to use real-life locations to shoot a scene. Some of the most challenging sets for a set designer and production unit are those needed for period films. In such films, the requirements of palaces are a must. Nowadays, makers prefer to use real-life locations. One such film that used a real-life palace was Arundhati, which was released in 2009. The horror film starred Anushka Shetty in the lead role and became a great hit. Now, it has been found that the film was shot at the Nawab Palace in Banaganapalli, Andhra Pradesh. After the release of Arundhati, the Nawab Palace of Banaganapalli became quite popular among tourists. Many people started visiting the palace. Let’s look at the history of this palace.

The house of the Nawabs of Banaganapalli is monumentally located between the main roads on the way to the pilgrim village of Yaganti. The building is magnificent and was constructed by Mir Fazal Ali Khan around a century ago in order to entertain British guests or be used as a summer resort by the royal family. In the 17th century, the fort was occupied by Siddhi Sambhul Khan after the fall of the Vijayanagar empire. Bijapur Sultan had ordered Sambhul Khan to lay siege to the fort and to remove the remaining rulers of the Vijayanagar empire. He was able to successfully remove them from the fort and establish their own rules.

Some of the rooms in this fort are quite old and broken. The rooms that were used in the film Arundhati, where Anushka Shetty used to dance, were re-invented for the film. Overall, the fort displayed an excellent example of the royal and Indian architecture of ancient times.

The fort has around nine rooms and a big hall. It also has stairs on both sides of the palace.
