With "Dark Souls III" still ruling the roost on a number of PC game retailers' charts, one of this month's biggest releases is in with a chance of usurping it.
Its visual style is heavily reminiscent of the same studio's blockbuster franchise "Borderlands," but "Battleborn" looks to capitalize on enthusiasm for hugely popular (and lucrative) team games like "League of Legends" and "Dota 2."
Come Monday May 2, April's "Dark Souls III" remains the best seller on both Steam and GameStop, but with a May 3 launch on PC -- and simultaneous launches across PlayStaion 4 and Xbox One -- "Battleborn" is one of several new games with the potential to become gaming's latest draw, with its deluxe edition creeping up to fourth place on the Humble Store ahead of release.
For those on PlayStation 4, tentpole "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" releases May 10, with multi-platform shooter "Doom" coming later the same week, and May 24's team-based action game "Overwatch" the latest offering from authoritative "Warcraft" and "Hearthstone" studio Blizzard Entertainment.
On GamerGate, "Rainbow Six Siege" is the top draw, with the more recent sci-fi strategies "Offworld Trading Company" and "Ashes of the Singularity" also in demand, while animé-style adventure "Asagao Academy: Normal Boots Club" also remains in first place on Itchio.
