New Delhi: Disney sure knows how to introduce the world of technology to little minds through fun and interactive ways.

The research team of world’s biggest entertainment company dedicated to kids has invented a new type of an augmented reality coloring book app in which children colour characters in a printed colouring book and inspect their work using a mobile device.

The app detects and tracks the drawing and the video stream is augmented with an animated 3D version of the character being coloured.

This has been made possible through various technologies which include the texturing process being captured from 2D drawing to the visible and occluded regions of a 3D character in real time.

With the use of real-time deformable surface tracking method, the conversion from 2D to 3D has been successfully achieved.

Although the app is still in early stages, it could soon make its way to the Disney store and completely change the way children colour their favourite characters.
