Elon Musk Wants To Build A Powerful Supercomputer To Run The Next-Gen Grok AI Chatbot: Know More
Musk has offered the Grok AI chatbot to the premium users so far but the next-gen version could be available to more people as he looks to rival OpenAI and more

Elon Musk is on a mission to compete with OpenAI and Google’s big AI ambitions. Musk has set up xAI which could soon have its own supercomputer to power the next-gen Grok AI chatbot. The report comes via The Information this week, which says Musk has informed about these plans to his investors behind closed doors.

Musk has reportedly told the investors that the supercomputer is being aimed to be up and running by the fall of 2025, which is just a shade over one year from now. It is also being mentioned that xAI will rely on the expertise of a giant like Oracle to build the supercomputer.

Musk wants to take on the big AI giants like OpenAI and look to better the powerful computing system that Meta is building for its own AI ambitions. Having a powerful AI tech under its wing will help xAI grow and mature its next version of the Grok AI chatbot which will need the raw computing power of Nvidia’s latest graphic chips.

The report goes on to suggest that when xAI manages to build this system, it will be at least four times the size of the biggest GPU cluster that is being adopted in the industry as of today.

Supercomputers are an essential part of the growing AI ecosystem and running these AI applications on the cloud or device needs powerful systems to process the data quickly. Musk has offered Grok AI to the X Premium users so far but building a supercomputer suggests he aspires to take the AI chatbot to more users. After all, he is seeking billions in funds to keep xAI running and for that, investors would need to see more user base signing up for the platform which can eventually turn into possible revenue models.

In other news about Musk and his companies, your good old likes from social media app X could go away soon. Well, technically, they are not going away but Elon Musk has decided to hide the feature from your profile. In fact, you will also lose the Likes tab from the account in the near future.

Likes have been a critical part of Twitter earlier and other social media apps like Instagram even Facebook over the years.

So, why is X going to remove the feature and also the Likes tab from our profile? “Public likes are incentivizing the wrong behavior. For example, many people feel discouraged from liking content that might be ‘edgy’ in fear of retaliation from trolls, or to protect their public image,” as said by Haofei Wang, X engineer on the platform earlier this month.
