Google Pixel 8 Model Is Not Powerful Enough To Run Gemini Nano AI Tech: What We Know
Google's Gemini Nano AI model is capable of running on high-end phones and the Pixel 8 Pro has already shown its ability.

Google has shared some bad news with those who bought the latest Pixel 8 model in the last few months. We all know that the AI-powered Tensor chip offers reliable performance and other nifty features. The Pixel 8 Pro is one of the first phones to benefit from the Gemini Nano AI tech but sadly, Google believes that the Pixel 8 is not powerful enough to run the AI model.

Google has talked about ‘hardware limitations’ with the Pixel 8 that makes it unlikely to support the AI model. As you might be aware, the Pixel 8 series has a differing hardware, only with regards to the RAM on board.

The Pixel 8 comes with 8GB RAM while the 8 Pro features 12GB RAM which Google feels is required to run the nano version of Gemini AI on a smartphone. We assume that could be the only reason for the company skipping the Pixel 8 model for its on-device AI tech.

Google confirmed the update via a web show recently, where it also pointed out that Gemini Nano AI will be coming to the top high-end devices only, which includes the Samsung Galaxy S series models, the Pixels and most likely some phones from brands like OnePlus, Oppo and more.

It is interesting to see Google completely leave out Pixel 8 from its AI integration and people who bought the phone will be feeling aggrieved by this decision, which doesn’t bode well for a brand that faces a tough fight in the premium market.

Google introduced Gemini AI in multiple versions, and Nano is the smallest of the lot that can run AI models on the device. The company is already in the process of offering the Nano AI on older Pixel models which should be rolling out with the March Pixel update features for the existing Pixel users.
