Google updates its web browser Chrome every six weeks, be it an update related to security, stability, and speed. Now, the Mountain Veiw, California-based giant has announced that it will speed up the updates and will release new changes every four weeks. This will being with Google Chrome 94, which will be launched in Q3 2020. Apart from this, Google said that it will release smaller security focused updates every two weeks now.
?As we have improved our testing and release processes for Chrome, and deployed bi-weekly security updates to improve our patch gap, it became clear that we could shorten our release cycle and deliver new features more quickly,” Google said in a blog post. Google also said that it will offer multiple stable release options for Chrome OS but will share more details about its plans later this year.
This means that Google is sticking with its six-weeks schedule for Chrome updates till at least August. According to reports, Google will target a release of Chrome 94 on September 21. Google has also said that its plans for a four-week cycle could change over the next few months.
Google?s plans for bringing security updates more frequently is a welcome move from users, as the browser is prone to malcious attacks. Recently, a cyber security researcher has discovered a malicious Google Chrome extension that was abusing the Chrome Sync process that can help hackers steal user data. Hackers can use the Google Chrome sync feature to send commands to infected browsers and steal data from infected systems, bypassing traditional firewalls and other network defenses.
