New Delhi: Google is planning to bring the online shopping experience closer to you with a new feature that will let you buy items right from the search results page on your mobile device.
As the marketers worldwide are leveraging the potential our handheld smartphones have to offer, Google is not behind the race as it plans to test ‘buy buttons’ that will be listed alongside the ads it puts above its normal search results, a new report in The Wall Street Journal notes.
These sponsored top results will redirect a user to a special purchasing page that is still hosted by Google and where one could make the purchase, choose the type of product, set a preferred delivery date- all without leaving Google.
As The Verge reports, Google will also let users store their credit card information to offer easier transaction the next time they search for any item and want to buy it.
Initially, the feature will only be tested on the mobile version of its search pages and only be run on a small percentage of search traffic.
Currently, Google aggregates product pricing information and allows sellers to promote their stores via Google Shopping, however, that redirects the user to the store site or other third-party seller site.
The new buy buttons will cut down on the page redirection and let you shop without visiting a store’s site. While this has upset companies who want more control on user data for targeted marketing, Google is trying to mend that by providing online shoppers an option to share their data with the stores.
The Journal notes that one of the first partners could be Macy's, which sells just about everything and the new ads could hit your mobile search screen in the coming weeks.
