Google's Pixel Fold 2 To Feature A Bigger Display? Here's What We Know
Google Pixel Fold 2 is expected see major hardware upgrades but the tweaks to the size of the screen could make it more usable.

Google is working on a new Pixel Fold version and the successor is dubbed the Pixel Fold 2. The device will likely be announced at the Google I/O 2024 conference which has been scheduled for May 14 this year. Amid the craze surrounding the smartphone, several alleged renders of the device have surfaced online suggesting that Google’s upcoming foldable offering will likely boast a noticeably larger screen.

The CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) Ross Young has shared a post on X talking about the size specifications of the Pixel Fold 2. In his post, he wrote, “The leaks on the Pixel Fold 2 don't have the display sizes right. 8.02″ for the foldable display and 6.29″ for the cover display. Panel production starts in April! It is coming.” With the production of the panels beginning in April, it is highly probable that Google will reveal the new device at their I/O event a month later.

The rumoured 6.28-inch cover panel on the Google Pixel Fold 2 is going to be a noticeable bump in screen size when compared to its predecessor. The original Pixel Fold boasts an outer display size of 5.8 inches while the inner display has a foldable 7.6-inch screen.

This means that the Pixel Fold 2 might have a longer and narrower cover screen than the Pixel Fold. This could prove to be a massive plus point for Pixel fans and users as the newer screen size could eliminate the original issues of apps opening in landscape mode when unfolding.

The upcoming Google Pixel Fold 2 will also feature a brand new CPU in its heart. The Pixel Fold successor is expected to pack the yet-to-be-announced Tensor G4 chipset. This could also lead to the latest foldable debut alongside the upcoming Pixel 9 series in October. However, there are chances that the software giants unveil the new Tensor SoC ahead of its typical cycle to prepare a solid foundation for their Pixel 9 lineup.

When it comes to other specifications, the prototypes of the Google Pixel Fold 2 are in testing with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB fast UFS 4.0 storage. For comparison, its predecessor the Pixel Fold packed 12GB RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. In the meanwhile, rumours of Pixel 8a launching have gathered pace as the new device has been cleared by certification sites in the US which means the official bow is not far away.
