San Jose: Google Chief Executive Sunder Pichai on Sunday described India as the "fastest growing start up nation in the world".
"India is the fastest growing start up nation in the world. Sunder Pichai @google at the Digital India Dinner," ministry of external affairs spokesman Vikas Swarup tweeted.
Modi has accelerated effort to make India the next driver in innovation, said Sunder Pichai, CEO of Google.
"We are proud of what is happening in India and share Prime Minister's vision of digital India," he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in the Silicon Valley early Sunday to meet world's top tech honchos. His vision of a ‘Digital India’ is hailed by the top leaders of the Silicon Valley.
Modi said Digital India was born out of conviction that it was possible to rapidly transform the lives of people on margins and touch the lives of the weakest, farthest and the poorest citizen of India as also change the way our nation will live and work.
On India's collaboration with Google, Modi said," We are expanding our public WiFi hotspots. For example, we want to ensure that free WiFi is not only there in airport lounges, but also on our railway platforms. Teaming up with Google, we will cover 500 railway stations in a short time."
