Having launched three Nexus phones - Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 5X - in collaboration with Google, LG now seems to have no further plans to bring a new Nexus phone this year.
Citing an LG spokesperson, CNET, in a report, said, the company has no plans to build a successor to the Nexus 5X phone. The company instead intends to pay more attention to its own brand.
"LG needs to focus on its own brand," said the CNET report quoting the LG spokesperson at the Mobile World Congress 2016.
Besides, the company aims to invest all its resources in promoting its latest flagship G5 smartphone, its first modular phone, which was unveiled at MWC 2016.
While it is assumed that manufacturing a Nexus phone gives companies a brand boost, but there is another side to it as well. "While partnering with Google offers the cachet of building a flagship device with the latest version of Android, the search giant tends to overshadow any handset maker it works with," said the report. It could probably be one of the reasons that LG doesn't want to coninue its Nexus partnership with Google.
In 2015, Google for the first time, unveiled two new Nexus smartphones at once - Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. In addition to the 5X made by LG, Google for the first time partnered with China's Huawei for its "phablet" sized 5.7-inch Nexus 6P.
