New Delhi: No more fiddling with the small screen tablet while typing longer texts. Microsoft has developed a unique tablet cover that combines a touch-based display and a keyboard.
Microsoft’s Applied Sciences Group has developed the tablet keyboard, dubbed DisplayCover that features Kindle-like e-ink display that works alongside the Surface tablet’s 10.6-inch primary screen.
The DisplayCover includes a full keyboard and an ultra-thin e-ink display that doubles up as a secondary screen offering 1280X305 resolution, albeit in black and white, which the company says extends the usable screen by up to 8 per cent.
It basically turns your small tablet into a mini laptop as the secondary display on the cover can be also be used to scroll through objects on the primary screen, launch apps, and even write upon with a digital pen.
The DisplayCover is currently just a research project, but the applications are interesting as it would allow tablets to offer more functionality without physical changes to the hardware.
