New Delhi: OnePlus 2 is Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus’ second flagship handset that has been launched today. Marred by pre-launch leaks, the price of the OnePlus 2 still kept the buzz going strong till the company did not announce it at its event.

From being launched in the world’s first VR event for a smartphone, to being one of the first smartphones with the new USB Type-C port, the OnePlus One successor boasts of a lot of new features while maintaining some of the standard OnePlus specifications.

Here are the key additions in the new OnePlus 2:

Alert Slider

The OnePlus 2 comes with a new Alert Slider which is a dedicated hardware switch at the side of the smartphone for easy control of notifications. More synonymous with iPhones, a toggle switch is not usual for Android smartphones and OnePlus has aimed at providing more control and functionality at the click of a button.

The three-position switch lets you change your phone’s notification modes- All, Priority, and None.

USB Type-C

The 2016 flagship killer smartphone comes with the new USB Type-C port for charging and external output. This makes it one of the first flagship smartphones to come with the new type of port. It would further make the USB cable more optimal than before.

Fingerprint sensor

The OnePlus 2 further includes a fingerprint sensor that adds to the security of the device. The sensor is able to store up to five unique fingerprints.

Oxygen OS

OnePlus and Cyanogen were embroiled in a dispute over the use of the Cyanogen OS. Under the agreement, OnePlus had non-exclusive rights to ship the OS with their devices worldwide. However, when OnePlus tried shipping devices to India last year, it turned out that Cyanogen had already made an agreement with home grown Micromax which gave the company exclusive rights to the Indian market.

That's how the Oxygen OS came into being and with the new OnePlus 2, the company has moved from the older OS and has pre-installed its Oxygen OS in the latest flagship smartphone. Both Cyanogen OS 12 and the new Oxygen OS are similar in appearance but differ in customising features.

Other features

In terms of design and processor, the OnePlus 2 is slightly thicker at 9.8mm and heavier at 175 grams against the original flagship killer which is 8.9mm-thick and 162 grams in weight.

The dual-SIM smartphone comes packed with a 4GB RAM as opposed to the 3GB RAM present in the earlier model.

OnePlus 2 draws its juice from a 3300mAh battery and will start selling from August 11. It has been priced at Rs 22,999 for the 16GB model. However, the 64GB OnePlus 2, priced at Rs 24,999 will be first made available on the said date and the lower storage model will arrive later.
