Douglas Englebart invented the first computer mouse more than 50 years ago in 1963. It was built by Englebart's lead engineer Bill English as a part of an experiment that aimed to find better ways to point-and-click on a display screen. The first mouse had a casing carved out of wood and had only one button. It had two wheels, perpendicularly mounted to one another and housed inside the mouse.
