TikTok has released its fourth Transparency Report that provides ?visibility? into the volume and nature of content removed for violating its Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. The latest report covers all actions that the company took between July 1 to December 31, 2020 (H2 2020). TikTok adds that it removed 89,132,938 videos globally in the second half of 2020 for violating Terms of Service, which is less than 1 percent of all videos uploaded on TikTok. Of these videos, 11,775,777 were removed in the US. Notably, 92.4 percent of these videos were removed before a user reported them, the company claims.

TikTok?s H2 2020 Transparency report that came out earlier this week further notes that a total of 6,144,040 accounts were removed for violating Community Guidelines in the second half of last year. The platform also rejected 3,501,477 ads for violating advertising policies and guidelines. To curb the spread of COVID-19-related misinformation, TikTok?s COVID-19 information hub was viewed 2,625,049,193 times. Banners directing viewers to the COVID-19 information hub were added to 3,065,213 videos. Moreover, public service announcements (PSAs) on hashtags directing users to the WHO and local public health resources were viewed 38,010,670,666 times. TikTok adds that it also removed 51,505 videos that promoted COVID-19 misinformation.

Sharing other data, TikTok?s H2 2020 Transparency report notes that the 2020 US elections guide with authoritative information about voting, the elections, and results were visited 17,995,580 times. The company reveals that the US government received 546 legal requests for information; however, it does not highlight the number where requests were accepted.

TikTok calls the latest report its ?most comprehensive report to-date.? The company claims that it would keep improving systems to proactively detect and flag misleading content for review. TikTok further highlights that more investment is needed to educate creators and brands on disclosure requirements for paid influencer content.

Meanwhile, TikTok remains banned in India due to cyber-security threats that the India government believes comes from its parent company, ByteDance that is based out of China. Recently, TikTok announced that it is cutting down operations in the country after the government placed a permanent ban on the app. According to a report, the government decided to retain its ban on TikTok and 58 other Chinese apps following responses from the companies on issues such as compliance and privacy.
