Twitter faces class action lawsuit for alleged gender-biased promotion policy
Tina Huang has alleged that hiring decisions at Twitter are carried out by the largely male upper management thereby creating a gender imbalance in the top positions.

New Delhi: Twitter is reportedly being sued by a former female software engineer at the company who has claimed that the company's promotion process unlawfully favoured men.

Former employee, Tina Huang, has filed a class action lawsuit against Twitter alleging that the company relied on a 'black box' style of promotion, wherein employees are notified of open positions via a mysterious 'shoulder tap' process.

A report in The Verge stated that Huang claims she was overlooked for a promotion and ultimately fired after she complained about it. She has alleged that hiring decisions are carried out by the largely male upper management thereby creating a gender imbalance in the top positions at the social media giant.

Meanwhile, Twitter maintains that Huang left the company on her own terms and that she was not fired. The controversy comes at a time when Twitter completed 9 years on March 21. In 2006, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey had posted his first tweet ever.
