US telecom giant Verizon has won the right to stream a National Football League game from London in September, expanding the online presence for professional American football games.
Terms were not announced, but The Wall Street Journal reported Verizon agreed to pay $21 million for the rights, in the hope that it will help its online advertising efforts.
A Verizon statement said it will be the NFL's "exclusive digital partner" for the September 24 matchup between Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium.Also read: South Asia Satellite Launch Countdown to Begin Thursday
The game "will be streamed live across Verizon's portfolio of platforms including AOL, Fios, go90 and Complex," the statement said.
The deal helps Verizon boost its sports streaming efforts as it prepares to integrate Yahoo's core internet business later this year.
The NFL earlier this year awarded streaming rights for Thursday night games to Amazon, after a similar deal with Twitter last year.Also read: UN Technology Innovation Lab to be Set up in Kerala
