WhatsApp Is Now Changing Verified Badges From Green To Blue: Here's Why
WhatsApp is going the way of other Meta-owned apps who offer a blue badge for verified accounts and the messaging app will offer for the business profiles.

WhatsApp is planning another change to the interface. The messaging app is set to upgrade its verification system, replacing the current green badge with a blue checkmark for confirmed businesses and channels. This change aligns with Meta’s broader strategy to standardise the visual appearance of verified accounts across its platforms, including Instagram, X and Facebook, enhancing user trust and authenticity.

WhatsApp now seems to be offering iOS users the chance to experiment with the new checkmark, similar to what’s already available for Android users.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo reports that the messaging app has switched to a blue checkmark for channel and business verification to align more closely with Meta’s visual branding. This update replaces the old green badge, providing a more unified appearance across platforms and enhancing user trust. The blue checkmark ensures authenticity by protecting users from potential impersonation and facilitating secure interactions with verified businesses and channels.

Users may easily identify verified accounts using a consistent visual identity across Meta platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram, promoting trust and familiarity. This uniform strategy improves brand recognition, allowing users to identify real accounts and engage with confidence. For the time being, the feature is only available to those users who install the most recent versions of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app, but it will be made available to more people in the coming weeks.

This move might also be viewed as a response to Meta Verified, a tool revealed by Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg two months ago and now available to selected businesses in certain markets.

Meta introduced Meta AI for all platforms, including WhatsApp, in June. The company stated that their Meta AI can assist users with routine activities, learning, and creative activities. Meta AI, which was first unveiled at last year’s Meta Connect and is powered by the most recent Llama 3 technology, has been spreading globally since April and is now available to Indian users.
