Livetext was launched two weeks ago in five countries only. On August 13, Yahoo made the application available globally.

Yahoo's Livetext is an audio-free live video application that is comparable to Snapchat and FaceTime except for its lack of sound, which enables video-takers to be more discreet, avoids background noise and makes communication les stressful. Emojis and text overlay the screen (hence the Snapchat comparison).

At the launch, held at Tumblr headquarters in New York, Senior Vice President of Mobile and Emerging Product Adam Cahan explained the idea behind the app: "People are texting a ton, but what's not happening is calling and video chat," as quoted by the International Business Times.

Livetext is available for Android and iOS and is free to download.
