HR Takes Stand Against Unfair Raksha Bandhan Leave Policy, Gets Fired By Boss
The woman took a stand when the boss introduced a new rule stating that employees taking leave on Raksha Bandhan, the company would deduct seven days of salary.

An HR manager based in Punjab was abruptly fired after clashing with her boss over a controversial leave policy for Raksha Bandhan. As per the WhatsApp chats, the boss introduced a new rule stating that employees who wish to take leave for the festival on August 19, the company would deduct seven days’ worth of salary instead of one. The woman decided to take a stand against her boss’ unfair policy, but it backfired, as the latter decided to dismiss her from the company. According to her LinkedIn post, she was given a two-week notice but her access was taken away from the office immediately. Days after the woman shared her experience, the company denied all her claims and revealed the HR manager had received various warnings in the past.

The woman wrote, “Tried to take a stand for what was wrong as per the laws. But got a Termination letter as a result. He mentioned in the email that he will give 2 weeks of time to me but he revoked all the access so that I can leave immediately. My boss terminated me because I took a stand and suggested to him that we cannot deduct 7 days of salary for 1 day of absence. If anyone wants a toxic boss then only he/she can join the B9 solution.”

As per screenshot shared, the boss informed, “After considering our team unity, I have made the following decision: On August 19th, Raksha Bandhan, there will be no half-day or short leave granted. Attendance is mandatory. If anyone does not come to work on August 19th, they will face a 7- day deduction. Attendance on this day is compulsory. If anyone disagrees with this decision, they are welcome to submit their resignation.”

The HR Manager attempted to explain that deducting seven days’ salary was not a “fair practice under the law or fundamental rights.” However, her boss defended the policy, stating that if employees didn’t agree, they could resign. He was determined to break employees’ unity under his leadership.

After the HR manager’s post went viral, the company criticised her for playing the victim and gaining sympathy online. They suggested that while people enjoy gossip and show support, it’s easy to form opinions based on one side of the story. The company claimed that the HR had received multiple warnings for issues such as excessive phone use, working on personal online courses, failing to manage social media accounts, not filling vacant positions and even doing her daughter’s homework. They also said she attempted to form a union to get extended leave between August 15 and 20. The company argued that while others agreed to the initial August 15 leave and a flexible schedule on the 19th, she was trying to manipulate the situation by claiming it was the employees’ demand.

Despite justifying their policy, the company faced backlash from social media users and the majority supported the woman.

A user wrote, “Is corporate bringing slavery back? Imagine giving almost 45% to 50% of our day, every day, then not being able to celebrate special festivals with our loved ones.”

Another shared, “In Mohali majority of the companies are not following the Laws and making their own set of rules.”

One more added, “Modern Day Slavery no one can dominate an Indian better than an Indian.”

Since the post was shared on LinkedIn, it has garnered over 9,000 views.
