Botox and other injectable treatments have moved beyond the realm of celebrities and become mainstream, with people from various professions opting for these cosmetic procedures to maintain youthful skin. This trend is notably growing among men, who increasingly favour injectables over expensive skincare creams and facials. According to a 2023 study by Mintel, a London-based research agency, approximately 30% of men are interested in incorporating more facial skincare products into their routine, compared to 26% of women.
One example is a senior executive based in Bengaluru, a Chief Financial Officer (CFO), who uses injectables to address crow’s feet and lines between his brows, as reported by The Nod Mag.
“Look at the numbers. A facial for monthly upkeep at a good salon costs you at least rupees 5,000, but I get my frown lines lightened every year for rupess 8,000. I’m actually winning,” shared the 37-year-old CFO, who chose to remain anonymous, in an interview with the online magazine.
He had his first experience with Botox injectables in 2022.
His typical treatments include a bit of Botox to soften the crow’s feet around his eyes and another application for the frown lines between his brows. Other popular treatments for men include fillers to plump the lips and chin, Botox for a more defined jawline, and non-surgical body contouring for enhancing muscle definition and reducing fat.
While most people use Botox subtly, there are rare cases where individuals take cosmetic treatments to the extreme to alter their appearance. One such example is an Austrian woman, known by her social media name Fetisch Barbie, who openly admits to being addicted to Botox and fillers. Her overuse of these treatments has resulted in exaggeratedly plump lips and sharply defined cheekbones.
During an appearance on the show Hooked On, Fetisch Barbie reportedly shared that she’s had fillers in her cheeks, chin, nose and lips. Additionally, she has used Botox across her face to achieve a smooth, wrinkle-free complexion. Despite having lips that are three times larger than the average person’s, Fetisch Barbie expressed her desire to “go bigger.” She admitted her obsession with cosmetic procedures, saying, “I am addicted to filler and Botox 100%.”
To maintain her appearance, she gets fillers every three months. Fetisch Barbie also revealed that she has likely spent around 50,000 pounds (approximately Rs 52 lakh) on Botox and fillers to achieve her look.
