Memes Take Flight As Low Visibility Causes Airport Chaos

In the past few days, there has been a massive delay and cancellation of flights due to intense fog covering north Indian cities like Jaipur and Delhi. This has caused inconvenience for flyers, many of whom have criticised the airport authorities and airlines for mismanagement and insufficient communication. Several videos and photos of crowded airports have surfaced from across India. A video even shows passengers of an IndiGo flight eating dinner on the runway next to the plane after their flight was rerouted to Mumbai. Amidst such incriminating videos, internet users have taken to memes and sarcasm to talk about the flight delays.

An X user joked about the several hours’ delay and posted on X, “Here’s an idea for Delhi airport. We know about inflight movies. How about in queue films? Captive audience. I’d choose Andhadhun, but with a running time of just over two hours, it won’t be enough. Perhaps Mera Naam Joker! After all, we consumers are the jokers.”

A passenger whose flight was delayed commented, “I started chatting with a fellow pax in the security line. Got enough time to know each other and are now friends. Incentives being Delhi Airport traveller.” Another joked, “Very soon people will fall in love and get married to the whole waiting queue at Delhi airport and will leave for their honeymoon in the flight.”

An X user shared a photo that captured the thick layer of fog over Delhi and asserted, “This photo taken today while descending into Delhi Airport gives you an idea of the extent of fog over Delhi NCR which has caused widespread travel chaos all over India. If you look closely, you can see the tips of the skyscrapers in Gurugram.”

Actor Radhika Apte was amongst thousands of passengers who were stuck at the airport with very little communication from the airlines.

While posting a set of photos and videos from an aerobridge where she spent hours, Apte wrote, “Today morning I had a flight at 8:30. It’s 10:50 now and the flight has still not boarded. BUT the flight said we were boarding and put all the passengers in the aerobridge and LOCKED IT! The passengers with small babies, elderly people have been locked in for over an hour. The security won’t open the doors. The staff has ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE! Apparently their crew hasn’t boarded.” \
