New Civil War Scenario? AI Predicts State Alignments and Key Battlegrounds For US

Just last month, a dystopian thriller titled Civil War, helmed by Alex Garland, was released. The film showed a modern American Civil War depicting Texas and California against the US military and other regional factions. It led to an interesting question getting surfaced online. An AI bot, Gemini, was asked about what actual military conflict in the USA would look like today and whether Texas and California may ally. The answer will shock you.

Google’s Gemini AI shared, “If we saw a civil war today, states that seceded during the first civil war (Confederate states), might again be more likely involved on one side,” it mused. “These include Southern states like Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Missouri.” It further added that there may be a rural or urban divide and the AI shared that rural areas may withdraw.”

The AI further claimed that just like the USA election, in the Civil War, there might be key battleground states. It stated, “States with a history of swinging between Republican and Democratic control might be more susceptible to internal division in a civil war,” and names states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Florida, and North Carolina.

Gemini offered insight by sharing that in terms of military firepower, California, Florida and Texas have the most number of military bases, a crucial factor in a conflict as grave as a Civil War. It also pointed out a few potential significant players like Virginia and North Carolina, as these have high concentrations of military personnel. It considered Alaska with its difficult terrain to be of geographical advantage.

The AI bot’s prediction completely contrasts what the film Civil War has depicted, where Texas and California are allies. But, Gemini stated that the current political climate in the USA is quite “polarised” and these two particular states end up on different ends of the spectrum. It would be challenging to bridge this divide as the states have varied cultural identities and social values.

Gemini predicted that even if these two states became allies, there would still be competition among them for resources that might lead to conflict.
