Bengaluru is infamous for its traffic woes, with many finding that getting from point A to point B often takes much longer than expected. Recently, a social media post highlighted just how severe the issue can be, showing that travelling by foot might sometimes be faster than driving in the city. X user Ayush Singh shared a screenshot of Google Maps comparing travel times for a route from Brigade Metropolis to KR Puram Railway Station which has a distance of 6 kilometres.
The screenshot reveals the driving route between the two locations would take approximately 44 minutes whereas walking would take around 42 minutes. This revelation comes as no surprise to locals. With Bengaluru’s status as India’s IT capital attracting a constant influx of professionals, the city’s infrastructure struggles to keep pace with the growing population. As a result, traffic congestion has become a persistent issue, making even shorter trips a time-consuming endeavour.
Sharing the screenshot, Singh wrote, “This happens only in Bangalore.”

One user noted, “Same story across many metro cities in the world,” while another added, “Mumbai and Delhi also same situation during peak.”

There was also a sarcastic take on the situation. One user quipped, “Bangalore encourages walking a lot but people are not ready to take that step, but Bengaluru will wait for you to walk. Let’s walk. Listen to Bengaluru.”

On a more constructive note, some users pointed to the metro as a solution. “Look between them to see why the metro is the most important infrastructure for the city,” one user stated, noting the metro route takes only 13 minutes between the two destinations.
