Panipuri For Rs 333? Man Shares Pic of Beloved Snack Selling at Mumbai Airport With Hefty Price Tag
Viral pic shows Panipuri being sold at Rs. 300 at Mumbai airport, internet quips, 'Is this imported?'

Panipuri is one of those street foods that just hit differently when enjoyed roadside. It’s a universal truth, proven by Desis who, despite trying it at fancy restaurants, swear by the ones made by the local ‘thele wale bhaiya’. But have you ever thought about having Panipuri at an airport? Surprisingly, you can! The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMI) offers this beloved snack, but at a price that’s ten times higher than what you’d pay on the streets, which can be quite frustrating.

This was exactly the sentiment echoed by Kaushik Mukherjee, co-founder and COO of Sugar Cosmetics when he shared a picture of Panipuri being sold at Mumbai airport. The photo featured three popular street food items – Panipuri, Dahi Puri, and Sev Puri – with eight pieces each, priced at Rs. 333 per plate. Mukherjee, displaying his wit, captioned the photo, “Real estate is expensive for food stalls at the CSIA Mumbai airport – but I didn’t know THIS expensive.”

The post quickly went viral, with many people chiming in with humorous comments. One user joked, “The value of that last Sukhi Puri at the end just went up!” referring to the complimentary dry Puri often given by street vendors. Another quipped, “Must be imported ones,” while a third humorously recalled a dialogue from the movie ‘3 Idiots’ and wrote, “Paneer to kuch dino baad sunar ki dukan pe milega itti itti theliyo main.”

Several comments also speculated about the reasons behind the high pricing. One user explained, “System drives the price points . Its airport share, maintenance charges, operation, utilities bills, salaries, at the end the shop will make only 33 rs out of 333.” Another commenter noted, “Considering branded restaurant offering the same golgappas at the rate of 100-120, not the bad pricing at airport.”
