SpiceJet Crew Slips in 'Don't Panic' Note After Passenger Gets Stuck in Toilet For Entire Flight
Man travelling from Mumbai to Bengaluru on a SpiceJet flight got stuck in the lavatory for the entire journey. Here's what cabin crew asked him to do then.

In what turned out to be a distressing incident, a SpiceJet passenger faced an unsettling situation when he discovered himself confined in the lavatory for the entire duration of the flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru on Tuesday. The Bengaluru airport ground staff eventually came to his rescue, breaking open the toilet door. But wait, that wasn’t just the story, there’s more to this high-flying drama!

It all unfolded when the man, who was assigned seat 14D, was on a SpiceJet flight departing from Mumbai at 2:10 am to Bengaluru. Shortly after take-off, the passenger went to the restroom, setting off a chain of unfortunate events. Upon attempting to exit, he found the lock jammed. Despite crew efforts to unlock the door from the outside, they were unsuccessful.

The passenger’s complaint detailed his harrowing experience, stating, “Had to suffer a lot inside the restroom, it was really suffocating and was hard to breathe. He had breathing issues while he was locked inside the restroom,” the complaint said.

As if this tale couldn’t get any stranger, the resourceful crew, unable to crack the lock, resorted to a handwritten note slipped through the door gap. Shared on ‘X,’ the photograph of this note went viral, promising the stranded passenger assistance upon landing. The note, written in bold capital letters, reassured him: “Sir, we tried our best to open the door, However, we could not open. Do not panic. We are landing in a few minutes. So please close the commode lid and sit on it and secure yourself. As soon as the main door is open, engineer will come. Do not panic”

Little did the ‘unfortunate’ traveller anticipate that his seat for the journey would turn out to be a commode! (Sorry not sorry)

Meanwhile, News18 couldn’t verify the authenticity of the note.

The flight eventually touched down in Bengaluru at around 3:45 am, just over 1.5 hours after take-off. An airport engineer broke open the door, and the passenger was promptly provided with much-needed medical support.

SpiceJet, acknowledging the unusual turn of events, expressed regret and issued an apology for the inconvenience caused to the passenger. The spokesperson explained, “On 16 January, a passenger unfortunately got stuck inside the lavatory for about an hour on SpiceJet flight operating from Mumbai to Bengaluru, while the aircraft was airborne due to a malfunction in the door lock. Throughout the journey, our crew provided assistance and guidance to the passengers. Upon arrival, an engineer opened the lavatory door, and the passenger received immediate medical support,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
