For those who love to experience a thrill or are a roller coaster enthusiast, it is always the best chance to visit a theme park once or twice in a lifetime. What can be more thrilling is visiting a theme park that is completely abandoned. While the experience will be completely different from an ordinary theme park, with no food stands or operating roller coasters, it will definitely be an unforgettable one. It is to be noted that not every abandoned amusement park is haunted, but the eerie visuals and spooky stories are guaranteed to haunt anyone.

One such theme park located in the northern part of Ukraine has never had the chance to open its door or welcome a single guest in several years. We are talking about the ‘Pripyat Amusement Park,’ which seems to have frozen in time since the last-minute cancellation of its grand opening in May 1986.

The abandoned theme park in Ukraine

Nearly four decades back, the ‘Pripyat Amusement Park’ was shut down right before its inauguration due to the deadly nuclear disaster in Chernobyl. The park in the present time remains the haunting reminder of the devastation that shook every corner of the world.

From decorations still remaining hanging from the rides ahead of its opening to abandoned bumper cars in the closure, now taken over by greenery, the pictures of the theme parks give a clear reminder of the devastation from the nuclear blast.

Several pictures of the abandoned amusement park have been shared on the internet, showing the remains of what was previously built for thrill seekers who lived in the town of Pripyat.

Following the massive blast at the Number Four reactor at the nuclear power plant at Chernobyl, Ukraine, large amounts of radiation were released into the atmosphere, affecting miles around it including the now-abandoned amusement park.

The theme park which was scheduled for a grand opening on 1 May 1986 had to face cancellation right after that. It is said that the incident even caused the rides to have the highest radiation levels. Despite this, many have been brave enough in the last few years to visit the site occasionally.

For the unversed, the explosion at the nuclear plant initially led to the death of the workers, firemen, and clean-up workers. Many others around the area were also exposed to the radiation.
