This South African Schoolboy's 'Unreal' Rugby Kick Has Kevin Pietersen's Attention
Kevin Pietersen tagged professional rugby player Beauden Barrett in his post, asking him to have a look at the kick.

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen was left impressed by the rugby skills of a schoolboy from South Africa. In a widely viral clip, the kid was seen pulling off a bullet-like kick that covered almost half of the ground. The video was originally shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a user named Darren. The caption of the post read, “Just a South African schoolboy slotting a 75-meter kick. CLUTCH!” The clip was an instant hit on social media.

Many viewers, however, argued that the kick hadn’t covered the distance of 75 metres. Darren later clarified the error in the comment box of his post. He wrote, “Initial post sent to me, the person said 75. I can see where the purists want this corrected. 65 at least, though.” It was not only a powerful kick but the accuracy was also top-notch as the delivery went directly into the goal post at the other end of the field.

The post caught the attention of Kevil Pietersen, who couldn’t help praising the kid for his talent. He reshared the video on his X handle and wrote, “This might be the best goal kick I’ve ever seen on a rugby field. Is it real???” The former English captain further tagged Beauden Barrett in his post, asking him to have a look at the kick. Barret is an experienced rugby player from New Zealand and plays as a Fly half for Japan Rugby League One club Toyota Verblitz.

The video was able to create much buzz among rugby fans. Many of them commented on Kevin Pietersen’s post, showering plaudits on the schoolboy. A user couldn’t believe the distance to be 75 metres but labelled it as a “cracking kick.”

“This might be the best goal kick I’ve ever seen on a rugby field,” acknowledged an individual.

Another viewer praised the kid for his accuracy, calling it “unreal.”

A user revealed that the boy in the viral video is just “15 years old.”

Kevin Pietersen, who represented England in 104 Tests and 136 ODIs, has become a full-time cricket commentator after retiring from the sport. He is part of the official expert panel of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Pietersen previously competed in the franchise tournament as part of Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
