The introduction of UPI (Unified Payments Interface) has benefitted the people of India in many ways. Nowadays, there are several UPI applications enabling users to send and receive money with a few taps on their mobile screens. As cashless transactions have become quite simple, people don’t need to rush to banks or ATMs at the time of an emergency. Apart from the general public, these facilities seem to have come as a blessing for shopkeepers as most of the stores in India now allow customers to make payments through UPI apps.
Now, an auto driver based in Mumbai has shown a thumbs up to such platforms. According to the man, the introduction of UPI has helped him manage his finances in a more effective way. An X user named Gautam Govitrikar got to meet the auto driver on the streets of Mumbai. He dropped a video on the microblogging platform where the driver could be seen explaining the beneficial effects of UPI in his life.
Those who know me know how big a fan of UPI I am. But often, I am reminded of the profound impact it has had on all our lives.
Like this rickshaw driver I met today who says “It has been a life changing facility. “
“How?” I asked him

As the Mumbaikar was speaking in Marathi, Govitkar shared a gist of the conversation in the caption of the post. After the user asked the auto driver about the benefits of UPI, he hardly took any time to label it as “a life-changing facility.” According to the person, the UPI apps have enabled him to keep track of his bank balance on a regular basis. That’s why he is now able to make better planning of monthly expenses and savings.

The X user shared other parts of their conversation in the comment box. Speaking about favourable aspects of UPI, the auto driver said, “When it was all cash, I would make some frivolous expenses. Now I am saving money. And also, the number of fares and hence earnings have increased because people gladly choose me over others.”
After the post surfaced, many people showed their support for UPI, hailing the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) for the initiative. The former Governor of RBI, Dr Raghuram G Rajan, launched UPI in India back in April 2016.
