While stunning pandals during Durga Puja can be found in cities across India, Kolkata stands out for its innovative themes and designs.

Durga Puja is one of the grandest festivals celebrated with immense enthusiasm. The intricately designed pandals serve as a major highlight. These elaborate structures often centre around social and cultural themes, showcasing the dedication and artistry of the craftsmen. While stunning pandals can be found in cities across India, Kolkata stands out for its ability to elevate the experience with innovative themes and designs that captivate everyone’s attention.

This year, a raindrop-themed pandal at Salt Lake’s AK Block in Kolkata is making waves on social media. Reportedly, built with a budget of Rs 75 lakh, the pandal focuses on rainwater conservation. A video shared on Instagram shows metal and plastic utensils arranged in a lit-up pit, collecting droplets of water falling from the ceiling. The sound of the droplets hitting the utensils creates a soothing rhythm, similar to the traditional dhak drums. The innovative pandal has quickly become a viral hit, accumulating more than 3.5 million views so far.

The accompanying caption reads, “Kolkata never fails to surprise us.”

Take a look at the video here:

The video captured considerable attention online, as social media users inundated the comment section with appreciation for the distinctive raindrop-themed pandal.

One excited viewer commented, “Wow….creativity at its best… hats off to the concept creator…”

Another chimed in with, “This is insane of creativity.”

With a humourous touch, someone else wrote, “AI would replace engineers and this would replace Dhaakis! Jokes apart, this is crazy.”

“The Dhaak is being played outside. The water droplets are just adding texture to the original score outside,” a viewer pointed out.

Many others echoed similar sentiments with comments like, “This is sooo creative and amazingly executed,” “Creativity on peak level” and “Just wow! Speechless!”

Another fascinating Durga Puja pandal located in Kolkata impressed social media users with its metro station-inspired design. A video shared on X (formerly Twitter) shows a pandal at Jagat Mukherjee Park that pays tribute to the Green Line underwater metro in Kolkata. The post’s caption reads, “Believe me, it’s a Puja pandal in Kolkata.”

The video shows the minute details of the pandal which is designed to look like exactly like a fully functional metro station. From the seats, handrails and grab handles to the screens and announcements playing in the background, everything mimics the actual metro experience. The pandal also features a platform with escalators and exit signs. The creativity and attention to detail left people in awe, with many applauding the concept for its realistic execution and artistic creativity.
