Team India are set to play their first-ever international game against the USA at the T20 World Cup. Ahead of the highly anticipated fixture, the team was hosted by the Indian consulate in New York. From head coach Rahul Dravid to star batter Viral Kohli, the evening saw the who’s who of the Indian cricket fraternity spotted at the event. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Roger Binny, Secretary Jay Shah and Vice President Rajeev Shukla were also part of the occasion.

Among the other invitees was Indra Nooyi, the former CEO of PepsiCo. She was seen sitting next to Virat Kohli at the star-studded event. A picture, featuring the business icon and Kohli, went viral on X (formerly Twitter). For those who don’t know, Idra Nooyi was appointed as the first female independent director by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in June 2018.

A picture of the Team India squad posing alongside Rajeev Skhula also surfaced online.

Rahul Dravid, India captain Rohit Sharma and others were felicitated by the Indian consulate. BCCI President Roger Binny, Secretary Jay Shah and Vice President Rajeev Shukla were also honoured at the event.

The Consulate General Of India shared some glimpses of the reception on X. “This is the 1st time Team India is playing cricket in New York and first time playing the World Cup in the US. Cheering for Team India to go back home with the T20 World Cup,” the side note read.

India have been unbeaten so far in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup. They comfortably overcame Ireland in their tournament opener before beating arch-rivals Pakistan in a thrilling fixture last Sunday in New York.

The champions of the inaugural edition are just one win away from securing a spot in Super 8. India are currently at the top of Group A, sharing the same points (four) with co-hosts USA, who have defeated Canada and Pakistan in their first two group-league fixtures.
