Biden Calls Israeli Strike Killing Hezbollah Chief Hassan Nasrallah 'Measure Of Justice'
Biden's comments came after Lebanon’s Hezbollah group confirmed earlier Saturday that Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut

President Joe Biden on Saturday called the Israeli strike that killed Hezbollah’s Hassan Nasrallah a “measure of justice” for his four-decade reign of terror.

The comments came after Lebanon’s Hezbollah group confirmed earlier Saturday that Nasrallah, one of the group’s founders, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut the previous day.

Biden noted that the operation to take out Nasrallah took place in the broader context of the conflict that began with Hamas’ massacre of Israelis on October 7, 2023.

“Nasrallah, the next day, made the fateful decision to join hands with Hamas and open what he called a ‘northern front’ against Israel,” Biden said in a statement.

He also noted that Hezbollah under Nasrallah’s watch has been responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans.

In addition to this, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin informed that he spoke to Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant about events in Lebanon and expressed his full support for Israel’s right to defend itself.

Taking to X, Austin said, “I spoke twice with Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant yesterday about events in Lebanon. I expressed my full support for Israel’s right to defend itself and its people against Iranian-backed terrorist groups.”

“I stressed that the United States is determined to prevent Iran and Iranian-backed partners and proxies from exploiting the situation or expanding the conflict. I made it clear that the United States remains postured to protect U.S. forces and facilities in the region and committed to the defense of Israel.”
