Photos of French President Emmanuel Macron and his sports minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, which some netizens have labelled as ‘awkward’, have gone viral on social media.
A photo has emerged where Macron, 46, is seen tightly gripping the arm of Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, 46, as the latter plants a kiss on the French President’s neck. The former professional tennis player is also seen grabbing Macron’s bicep with one hand slightly tightly and her other hand is seen wrapped affectionately around his neck.

The photos were clicked during the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony – which netizens have compared to a ‘lover’s embrace’.
Some even pointed out the Prime Minister Gabriel Attal waa averting his gaze from the display of affection, with some claiming he may have felt embarrassed.
“Gabriel Attal, he pretends to look elsewhere! He doesn’t know where to stand!” a person commented below the viral photo on a social media site.

“It’s my lover that I’m kissing like this. Embarrassing,” said another.
“I find this photo indecent, it’s not worthy of a president and a minister,” a commentator opined.
The curious photo caught public attention through French magazine Madame Figaro, which labelled the kiss as “strange” and accused Oudéa-Castéra of seeking attention.
Some appeared to defend the embrace. “A slightly warm congratulation to celebrate the moment,” one social media commentator said.
