A “Haley Voters for Harris” trend has emerged on social media, where some former Republican supporters are now publicly endorsing their rival party’s candidate, Kamala Harris, for US president after incumbent Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 race.

Several GOP supporters online who previously backed Republican leader Nikki Haley have explained their change of heart, claiming that defacto Democratic candidate Harris represents a clear path forward for the country.  However, according to Collin Rugg — a popular Republican voice on X — the actual number of these individuals appears to be relatively small.

Rugg expressed doubt about the impact of this trend on the broader electorate, pointing out that it may be more of a social media phenomenon than a genuine shift in political allegiance. While the movement has generated buzz online, many Republicans on social media are viewing the trend with a pinch of salt. Some critics have labeled it a “psyop,” suggesting that the number of individuals transitioning from Trump to Harris is minimal.

The emergence of this movement coincides with Harris ramping up her campaign, having recently launched her first ad featuring Trump’s mugshot and stressing themes of freedom and justice. Despite the enthusiasm from a handful of former Trump supporters, Harris’s campaign faces significant challenges.

Trump remains a formidable opponent, and his team has already begun framing Harris as a “radical” candidate to sway undecided voters. On Wednesday, Trump launched a volley of attacks against the US Vice President in his first rally since she became the de facto Democratic Party nominee for November’s election.

The Republican nominee said: “She is a radical left lunatic who will destroy our country.” “We’re not going to let that happen,” he told the crowd in North Carolina. Trump’s speech comes as Harris hits the campaign trail armed with President Joe Biden’s endorsement — after his historic decision over the weekend not to seek reelection. The 78-year-old Republican called Harris “the ultra-liberal driving force behind every single Biden catastrophe.”
