Director Jacob Varghese, known for films like Prithvi, Safari, and Savari-2 Chambal, has landed in trouble following a complaint. He is accused of defrauding the Bengaluru School Sports Foundation by not providing the copyrights for a documentary film.
The organisation produced a video showcasing the lives of HIV-affected children and financially supported the creation of the documentary “Running Positive”. However, the foundation has now filed a complaint against the actor, alleging wrongdoing in connection with the project.
The complaint asserts that Jacob Varghese failed to provide copyrights for the video he shot, featuring two students engaging in a 4-year-old sport. Despite the foundation’s progressive funding for the video shoots, the director is accused of airing the documentary without transferring the copyrights to the organisation, despite having received payment for the project.
The director faces allegations of falsely claiming ownership of copyrights in the prestigious Akademi Award category. Additionally, a complaint has been filed against the Bangalore School Sports Foundation for financial losses, leading to a case being registered against the institute director at the Ashokanagar police station.
Previously, there was an upcoming project in the works with Jacob Verghese and Puneeth Rajkumar. The two were set to reunite for a family drama, backed by Puneeth himself. This would have marked his debut as the lead in his production venture, drawing considerable anticipation for this exciting project after almost a decade, but halted due to Puneeth Rajkumar’s demise.
Besides, Jacob Verghese has achieved the status of a three-time National Award-winning filmmaker in the non-feature category. At the 69th National Film Awards in 2021, his documentary Ayushman, presented in Kannada and English, was honoured as the Best Exploration/Adventure Film in the non-feature segment. His previous victories in the same category include the Dribbling with their Future at the 63rd National Film Awards and the short film Andhiyum in 2006.
