New Delhi: As the Airports Authority of India (AAI) employee's union stuck to their stand of handing over of modernisation work of Delhi and Mumbai airports to AAI, talks between employees and Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel ended in a stalemate.
The union leaders are protesting the modernisation of Delhi and Mumbai airports through private parties.
In an earlier meeting, they presented an alternate plan for modernising the two airports, but the minister rejected their plan.
The AAI employees have threatened to go on a strike if the aviation ministry ignores their demand.
The move to award 5,400-crore worth contracts for modernisation of the airports has run into stiff resistance from the Left parties too.
The Empowered Group of Ministers (EgoM), who were to discuss the financial bids on Monday evening, have postponed their meet to Tuesday.
Patel is understood to have told the airport employees forum that their plan was considered. While sources refused to say whether the plan was rejected or accepted, they confirmed that both sides "agreed to disagree".
The employees side was led by CPM MP Diapankar Mukherjee and forum convenor M K Ghoshal.
Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Minister has said that he would make a formal statement on the bids for airport modernisation on Tuesday.
