A wheel-bearing seal in the car model may leak and cause the wheel to fall off.

New Delhi: The automaker says it needs to fix a wheel-bearing seal that could leak and lead to a wheel falling off. The company is checking whether this problem exists in the Indian models as well.

Honda India's senior marketing General Manager Jnaneswar Sen says the Civic model recalled in the US were left-hand-drives and the company was checking if similar problems could be found in the Indian right-hand drive models.

Ruling out Civic recall in India, Honda Siel Cars India Ltd said it has not received any complaint of any possible defect in the model and is studying its specifications which will be completed by this weekend.

The defect had forced Honda Motor Company to recall 1.8 lakh units of its premium sedan Civic world over. ''We have not received any complaint and are currently studying the specifications of the Civic model in India and final picture will be clear by end of this week,'' HSCI senior General Manager (marketing) Jnaneshwar Sen said.

The company is also taking a close look to track all the Civic models manufactured between March 24, 2005 and February 8 this year, he added.

Honda Motor is recalling 1,82,756 Civics in America, Canada, Europe and other global markets to fix a wheel-bearing seal that may leak and cause the wheel to fall off.

The recall, covering 2006 and 2007 model-year Civic sedans and coupes, was reported on the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website. The affected models were made from March 24, 2005, through February 8 this year.

The company has used the similar wheel-bearing in its Civic, which is the market leader in the premium car D segment and had sold 22,000 units till August 2007.
